R.A. Dickey was looking pretty good tonight, through all 7 innings. He didn’t get off to a great start, and it didn’t end so hot either, but at least he was pretty good in between.
On Wednesday, Ichiro’s Suzuki’s 4,000th hit occurred when he singled to left off Dickey in the first inning.
The game was stopped as Ichiro received a standing ovation.

Ichiro would not score in the inning but the Yankees would take a 2-1 lead after 3 complete innings. He did have a second hit in the first game. He did not make the roster for the second game on Tuesday.
Toronto tied it in the 4th, and Dickey was able to keep the Yankee batting order under control for most of the rest of the game. He had most of the Yankees struggling to hit all night long. New York had only 4 hits going into the 8th.

Alfonso Soriano homered to score 2 late runs in the bottom of the 8th inning, Rajai Davis was caught trying to make his way back to 2nd base and the Jays lost their 3rd straight game in this current series in The Bronx, and 9th game this season, to the Yankees.

Ichiro had a hand in winning the 2nd game of Tuesday’s doubleheader, also with the Blue Jays. He stole 3rd base as J.P. Arencibia’s throw to Brett Lawrie was a little low. Jayson Nix singled to left field on the very next pitch as New York won Tuesday night, 3-2, in the bottom of the 9th.
The opening game of the Jays/Yankees series was played on Tuesday afternoon at 1 p.m. Toronto got off to a good start, taking a 4-0 lead, but as has happened so many times this season, the lone Canadian MLB club could not finish, and wound up with an 8-4 setback. Robinson Cano and Chris Stewart each hit 3-run home runs to propel them to victory.

Toronto’s slugger Jose Bautista made an early exit in the series opener and is now on the 15-day DL with a bone bruise on his left hip.
Toronto’s Davis managed a double in the top of the 9th but Yankee reliever Mariano Rivera somehow caught him trying to get back to the base (in a very close call), that made 2 outs and Rivera took care of the rest.

In his seven seasons in the Japanese Pacific League, Ichiro collected 1,278 hits. During his 13 years in the United States, he now has 2,722 major league hits.
Ichiro, who will turn 40 in October, has one more season remaining on his two-year, $13 million deal. He realizes the debate over the worth of his 4,000 overall hits but knows if he reaches 3,000 in the States, there will be no discussion.
