Cowboys Win But Lose Ware to Injury

Funny that Tony Romo was sitting on the bench for two of the biggest plays last night that helped bring the Cowboys (3-3) a win over RGIII and the visiting Washington Redskins.

Dwayne Harris returned a punt 86 yards for a touchdown and set up another score with a 90-yard kickoff return, helping the Cowboys hand Robert Griffin III his first loss in his home state with a 31-16 victory against the Washington Redskins on Sunday night.

Romo did not go completely un-noticed however, he did throw (another) costly interception and only had 170 yards of passing, compared to last week when he broke the 500 yard mark for his first time with the Dallas Cowboys.

The rest of the football club said they had Romo’s back as he faced yet another round of criticism over big mistakes late in games.

Harris showed it as did Kyle Wilber, and so did DeMarcus Ware, who suffered a quad injury in the second quarter.

Harris had an amazing 222 total return yards last night and Wilbur forced and recovered a fumble after RGIII got sacked. The Dallas defensive line got to RGIII on almost every play.

The Cowboys gave owner Jerry Jones a win on his 71st birthday and almost more importantly, kept the defending NFC champion Redskins (1-4) from building any momentum following their 0-3 start. Washington started the season 0-3, then beat Oakland, then had a bye week, now they were looking toad momentum; it did not happen in Dallas.

Harris’ punt return gave Dallas a 14-3 lead in the second quarter and the kickoff return came after Kai Forbath’s third field goal pulled Washington to 14-9 in the third.
Romo finished the job after Harris’ key kickoff return. He avoided a potential sack and threw off-balance into the corner of the end zone where Terrence Williams got two feet down just in time as he made the catch. He was pushed out of bounds by E.J. Biggers but still scored the 15-yard play which gave them a 21-9 lead.

Griffin who was brilliant last year on Thanksgiving weekend (his rookie year) said he felt good after his team’s bye week, and he looked it, but threw a bad interception with 5:06 remaining that would have brought his team to within five points with plenty of time to play.

Redskins linebacker Bryan Kehl left the game with a sprained knee and cornerback David Amerson was ruled out after sustaining a concussion.

Game notes
The Cowboys sacked Griffin three times last night, two more than both of their previous two games combined (against Philip Rivers and Peyton Manning).

Next game
Dallas looks for their fourth win of the season when they head to Philadelphia next week to play the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Redskins can’t stop a nose bleed at the moment and they seem like they couldn’t beat a fat guy up a hill. One day, they might bring together a truly competitive team. It’s been long enough since their last one. I don’t support the ‘Skins, but I do wish them well.
