Well two games into the 2013 pre-season and the Leafs have not lost (in regulation time)!!!
After holding on for dear life the other night, things were even closer last night but they fell to the Flyers (like they used to all the time 10 years ago), last night by a score of 3-2 after a 7-round shootout.
Apparently something was absolutely hilarious when it was Jake Gardiner’s turn to go in alone. I couldn’t find a copy of Gardiner’s by itself but I think it’s in here somewhere.
Something tells me this guy is going to be a real character and equally fun to watch this season. After being more dependable than Dion Phaneuf on the Leaf blueline back in May, he appears he could be even better this time around, and it is only mid-September.
Last night he was given the nod in the shootout but before his trip down the ice even started, he opted to change sticks at the team bench first. A) I have never seen that before, B) it did not work.
About 3 feet in front of Philly goalie Cal Heeter, Gardiner appeared to have missed completely. The camera showed him smiling about it on the bench. Then it showed coach Randy Carlyle laughing about it on the bench. This is getting good. It’s only pre-season and everyone thinks it’s funny. That’s a good sign. Too bad they did not win.The first 4 shooters last night scored beauties, absolute beauties. Van Riemsdyk scored, Bozak scored, the first two Flyers beat Drew MacIntyre. I can’t remember who made the first stop, but Heeter made the last stop as Tye McGinn walked in on MacIntyre and beat him ever so cleanly.
Even with a 3-2 SOL, Leafs still remain unbeaten in regulation. Nine players last night had one point.
None of the game’s 3 stars had any points (1-Gardiner, 2-David Clarkson, 3-McGinn)
