UPDATE TO CAPTAIN KIRK blog!!!

For the first time this summer, Dr. James Andrews will be meeting with Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder, general manager Bruce Allen and coach Mike Shanahan on Monday about the team’s plans for quarterback Robert Griffin III, a team source said.

Andrews had told the Redskins brass before training camp that he and the team would not make any decisions about Griffin III’s status until after the last preseason game, according to a source familiar with the process.

Still, Griffin has been so impressive this summer that Allen and Shanahan each have said that, barring any setbacks, they expect their quarterback to be able to start in the Monday night regular-season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Griffin took part in 11-on-11 drills for the first time last week, working with the scout-team defense. Previously he had been limited to 7-on-7 drills during camp as he works his way back from reconstructive knee surgery, part of Shanahan’s cautious approach that has tested Griffin’s patience.

Griffin, who has publicly questioned Shanahan’s plan for him, maintained there is no rift or conflict between the two. To reinforce that point, Allen said late last week said there is no controversy between the coach and quarterback.
